Administration skills

This course is ideal for anyone wishing to update their business administration skills or change career direction. It has been designed to provide the skills and knowledge to work in a variety of administration roles including reception and clerical roles. 

 

Content includes five MS office porgrams, office technology, managing information including social media, administration skills, resume writing and interview kills

Here at Banksia Gardens you will also gain real world experience that employers are looking for. The course is designed to strengthen the qualities employers value, including strong written and verbal communication, the ability to understand and be a part of the company’s culture and to show initiative and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Customer Service Skills

The main aim of this course is to provide the skills, knowledge and confidence to be able to undertake a wide range of tasks required for working in a retail and customer service environment. The program teaches participants the fundamentals of customer service in both face to face and telephone settings. You will also develop the skills to deal with challenging customers and situations

Sewing for life

This class is suited to both beginner and intermediate level sewers. In this course you will learn to make trendy clothes and the techniques of top designers. You will learn to fit and adjust commercial patterns to size so that garments look professionally made. Mater your skills by learning aspects of the machine and overlocking such as threading, tension adjustment and hemming. 

 

  • Sewing machine familiarity, maintenance and safety
  • Sewing basics, seams, darts, measuring, hems and more
  • Buttonhole placement
  • Understanding and fitting patterns

Workskills/ Job Ready

This course provides participants the opportunity to enhance their work readiness through skill development and understanding. Our training assists participants to understand the expectations of employers in both the recruitment process and as a new employee in the workplace. This training program is designed to build upon differing skill sets which will help inprove chances at being employed, be it paid or voluntary.

Introduction to community services

This is a taster course for those wishing to work in the community sectore but have no knowledge or skills on how to go about it. The course has been designed to be an introduction into community services courses at TAFE. While taking this course, you will be introduced to vocabulary around community services, safety issues and other content that will be addressed in the community services TAFE courses. 

 

Students will be able to make descions on future career choices within the setor or further studies. Vocational pathways to the program is certificate || & ||| in community services.

Writing Skills

This is an English course for learners who have experiences difficulties with professional writing due to a lack of knowledge of various aspects of English Language usage.

The course focuses on the expectations of the Australian workplace and aims to further develop advanced grammar and writing skills. Learners will learn how  to combine systematic grammar usage with creative practice of professional writing skills, weekly coverage of a particular area of grammar with examples and practice

Working in the Australian workplace

This course is designed to assist professionally-qualified migrants and refugees to address the challenges in finding work in their field by connecting them with leading companies. The objective of this course is to help them be well prepared for jobs that use their expertise and experience.

In this course you will learn about the world of work in the Australian workplace, working in a digital world, industry awareness, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), and you will get a chance for work experience.

Interacting with others in this course will help you to improve your skills of communication for the Australian workplace, teamwork in a diverse workplace, identifying and solving problems, planning and organising. Also, you’ll get job seeking support by tailoring your resumes to apply for current vacancies and practice job interview skills.

Be handy

This is an introductory course supporting unemployed people aged 18-65 years in the Hume region. This course will provide skills across a variety of trades giving unemployed people the opportunity to undertake a range of jobs as a handyman or enrol in accredited training in the industry. Participants will have the opportunity to learn a range of skills with great instructor-led hands-on classes. The course will include carpentry, plastering and painting.

Please note:  As this is a hands-on course, participants require safety boots to participate in this course.

Literacy and numeracy for the building and construction industry

This pre-accredited course is intended as a basic introduction to the building and construction industries in Victoria, and is designed for learners who are looking to enter the building and construction industry for employment.

In order to enter the building and construction industry, learners must obtain a ‘White Card’. The course prepares learners to be successful in obtaining the White Card. The course develops the literacy, numeracy and employability skills these learners need to be successful in their job applications and then to successfully transition to employment at entry-level construction work such as labourers or pre-apprentices
in the building and construction industries including housing.
