Our English courses support the development of the core skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Students gain these skills for work, life and community engagement applications.

English as an additional language

This program is focused on improving students’ English language skills, including speaking, reading, numeracy and writing.  The content will follow a formal sequence based on topics relevant to new settlers in Australia and also cover aspects of Australian culture.  The content will be influenced and driven by learner interest. The program content is based on activities that learners often need to undertake during their normal daily activities, such as renting a house, making a medical appointment, talking to a doctor, enrolling in school and completing Centrelink forms.

Day & time: Monday–Friday 9:00AM–11:00AM

Dates: 6th February–27 March 2023

Conversational English

This course is designed to assist the CALD community, low skilled and vulnerable workers and unemployed/underemployed people to participate in gainful employment or further study pathways leading to employment.

 

Learners will focus on improving their understanding of the English language specifically to align with their job seeking process. The curriculum will focus on conversation and reading skills, grammar in everyday situations, online communication, interview skills, filling in forms and occupational health and safety guidelines and the specific English language required for these activity.

Day & time: Monday–Friday 11:00AM–1:00PM

Dates:  6th February–27 March 2023

English for employment

This course is a practical model of delivering employment-based content for people from language backgrounds other than English who have intermediate English language skills and digital literacy skills. Participants will develop the English language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. In addition, students will also gain other employability skills, particularly technology skills, that will help them participate in further training or apply for paid work.

Day & time: Thursdays 11:00AM–1:00PM

Term dates: 9 February–30 March 2023

Location: Banksia Gardens Community Services

Cost: $85.00 or $50.00 concession

English for citizenship

This course is focused on the Australian Citizenship Pledge. It covers information contained in the testable section of the resource book to help students to pass the citizenship test.

 

This course is delivered in plain English focuses on topics of the citizenship test that are frequently difficult for students to pass, and can be tailored specific needs of students. This course is conducted in a classroom setting, with a number of support resources to assist you in understanding important citizenship concepts.

Dates: 30 January–27 March, 2023
