Towards Equality 2020 & Beyond aims to build the capacity of three local grassroots organisations to understand and advocate for the promotion of gender equality and prevention of gender-based violence.
Funded by Communities for Children, the project supports more than 80 women from three community groups by raising awareness around the gender factors that contribute to gender-based violence and children. The three organisations are Didi Bahini Samaj Victoria (DBSV) (Nepalese community), Oorja Foundation (Indian community) and El Amal Women’s Group (women from Arabic speaking background).
Bi-lingual group facilitators lead and facilitate the three groups of women, which meet at least once a week. Each group participates in a range of activities that enhance resilience and promotes leadership to influence broader community attitudes using cultural expression such as poetry, music, theatre, art, and dance.
