Towards Equality 2020 & Beyond aims to build the capacity of three local grassroots organisations to understand and advocate for the promotion of gender equality and prevention of violence against women.
Funded by Communities for Children, the project supports more than 80 women from three community groups by raising awareness around the gender factors that contribute to violence against women and children. The three organisations are Didi Bahini Samaj Victoria (DBSV) (Nepalese community), Oorja Foundation (Indian community) and El Amal Women’s Group (women from Arabic speaking background).
Bi-lingual group facilitators lead and facilitate the three groups of women, which meet at least once a week. Each group participates in a range of activities that enhance resilience and promotes leadership to influence broader community attitudes using cultural expression such as poetry, music, theatre, art, and dance.
16 Days of Activism
Our three women’s groups participated in a range of activities as part of 16 Days of Activism, producing poetry and some videos as part of their activism.
