The Food Relief Service provides food parcels, material aid and other assistance for families and individuals experiencing difficulties.

In the 2020-2021 financial year, the Food Relief Service at Banksia Gardens supplied 3,600 packages of material aid (food, essential household items) to the community, with an additional 4,500 packages distributed via the same program at our Kenley Court Neighbourhood House location.

About the Food Relief Service

What started out as a low-key support to a handful of people, mainly as extra support for some of our learners in our adult education and training programs who were experiencing significant poverty, became a steady flow every week when the pandemic hit.

With the program supporting several hundred people a week across both sites by mid-2020, it was clear to us that there was significant community need that would not abate soon and so we have upgraded the program by undergoing significant infrastructure changes. We have purchased commercial refrigerators and freezers, repurposed the area that was previously a cleaning storage area, tiled the floors, painted the walls, installed shelves, new lighting and double doors. We now routinely supply food support to three hundred people a week across both the Banksia Gardens and Kenley Court sites.
