Youth Transitions Pilot Program

unnamed

In May 2016 we commenced our involvement in the Youth Transitions Pilot Program, a program funded by The Brotherhood of Saint Laurence. Through this program we have been supporting young people aged 15 to 25 from recently arrived refugee and migrant backgrounds to build upon their employability skills and transition into training and employment opportunities.

The program takes advantage of our organisation’s strong connection to the community and of our well-established networks and it also utilises a new approach, called Advantaged Thinking, to working with young people. This methodology focuses on their strengths and aspirations rather than on their barriers or potential deficits.

Through this program we are offering the following support to young people:

  • Assistance to write resumes, cover letters and to search for jobs
  • Support to find employment, training, volunteer opportunities and work placements
  • Providing information about education and employment pathways
  • Organising industry visits and industry guest speakers
  • Enrolment in short courses (e.g. computer coding courses)

Upcoming Events:

  • Free Barista training each month at The Common Bean Cafe
  • Free girls volleyball every Tuesday night 5:45pm-7:30pm
