Our Making Music program is an open weekly activity for young people, aged 8 – 18 years. Local young people and our homework club students are invited to join. The program is based on learning to use instruments, write and sing songs, read music, use sign language with songs, and enjoy the self-expression of various musical activities.

The program aims to achieve what studies show are the benefits of music making for participants, including:

  • Reducing stress and anxiety
  • Facilitating self-expression and communication
  • Reducing feelings of anger and sadness
  • Building trust in others and confidence in self (with repetition and predictability of music)
  • Countering the impact of trauma with chemicals released during music making to induce a sense of happiness.

The music program is an opportunity for our young people to develop lifelong skills and provide opportunities for them to make music together. This program is supported by the Besen Family Foundation, the Jack Brockoff Foundation and Hume City Council.
