At Banksia Gardens we have a range of short courses from the very beginnings of how to navigate your computer through to advanced aspects of programs.

Learn how to prepare documents with Microsoft Word, or manage your budgets with Excel. Produce eye catching documents with Publisher, or slideshow presentations with PowerPoint. Learn how to navigate the internet and use emails, and even upload and share your photos and video with family and friends. The opportunities are endless.

At Banksia Gardens Community Services we also have a Computer Access Program that provides local residents with low-cost, high quality, second hand computers refurbished by our IT consultant. Find out more here.

Essentials (Beginners)

Learn the essentials of using a computer with this beginner course designed for people new to computers, who want to gain hands-on experience and confidence in a small class with a supportive trainer. Topics include- operating and navigating the computer, introduction to Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, how to use email and the Internet.

Beyond Basics (Intermediate)

Push beyond the basics and expand your skills with this all inclusive intermediate course. Designed to further explore the MS Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher and Outlook. This course promotes confidence and increased knowledge to meet your home and office needs.

Everything Internet

This course is for anyone who wants to improve their understanding of the Internet and its tools, who have a basic understanding of computers and limited experience using the internet. People who use email and a web browser on a daily basis and want to expand their use of the internet will also enjoy this course. Discover a comprehensive range of internet tools and the best ways to use them.

Advanced

Enhance your computer skills by learning more complex Microsoft features including tables and formatting, learn to set up, produce and store documents including spreadsheets, presentations and calendars. As well as using advanced Internet searching, email use and PowerPoint skills.

You will learn how to set up an email account, create an address book, identify and block junk mail, use Google features, maps and feature apps. PowerPoint skills such as entering text and images and adding special features will be taught and assessed in a mini project. This course is designed to help you gain confidence and skills whilst creating pathways towards nationally accredited training or employment.

Intel Learn Easy

This is a highly flexible course where you ‘learn by doing’, completing products and activities that you can start to use immediately. Its simple instructional approach will teach you basic computer literacy which is a key 21st century skill, allowing you better social and economic self-sufficiency. Learn practical skills including word processing, spreadsheets, multimedia, Internet and email. Additional optional modules focus on Internet based tools and how to use your skills in everyday life, employment and study.

Online Safety – New to 2017

Would you like to avoid malicious websites or inadvertent disclosure of personal information? Would you like to stay vigilant when supplying personal or financial details? It will make you more confident and secure when using the using the internet for not only your everyday use of basic browsing but also more sensitive things like banking and anything that requires you giving sensitive information and to ensure your browser is up to date.

Online Applications – New to 2017

Our online application course will guide you to apply and submit your online application for a course, job, claims or any other inquiry of interest. You will learn how to simply search for a vacancy, course, service by location or keyword. Create a personal profile with relevant information and keep track of the service you’ve applied for. Also how to save all required information and searches.
